Privacy notice

Last updated: November 3, 2026

Brovenn operates Brovenn, a service connecting Ontario contractors and project owners. This notice explains how we use information when you browse, create an account, advertise, communicate or contact us.

Information we collect and why

We use your name, email address, account credentials, public display name and optional profile photo to create and manage your account. If you enable two-step verification, we also process the information needed to provide that feature and account recovery.

We process the information you provide in ads, postal locations, availability, photos, project PDFs, optional phone numbers, messages, reviews, saves, alert preferences, reports and privacy requests. We use it to show relevant ads, connect members, deliver requested notifications, handle reports and respond to requests.

Visits and account activity can also generate connection and device information, including IP addresses, browser information, sign-in activity and interactions with the service. We and our service providers use this information to operate the website, measure usage and reliability, prevent misuse and investigate problems. We keep records of consent, contact activity and moderation decisions where needed for these purposes.

Public listings, profiles and reviews

Published ad details and listing photos are public. Public information may appear in search engines, public search services, RSS feeds, email alerts and public Telegram channels. An advertiser profile shows the public display name, available profile photo, membership month, current ads and public reviews. Where enough activity is available, profiles and ads also show summary reply statistics. These summaries do not reveal individual conversations or message text.

Public reviews include the reviewer's public display name, rating, feedback, experience type, related trade and date. Eligibility to leave a review is based on account and conversation activity; it does not establish that work was completed or paid for.

Your account email and account name are not automatically published on your advertiser profile. Anything you choose to include in your public display name, ad, photo or review can be seen by others. Do not publish private addresses, another person's contact details, identification documents or other sensitive information without authority. Shared search links can include the location or postal code entered in the search.

Messages and private project PDFs

Private messages are available to the conversation participants. Authorized staff may review reported messages and relevant context to handle safety or moderation concerns. Brovenn does not provide members with access to other people's private inboxes.

Project PDFs are private until the owner explicitly shares them with a particular conversation. A share covers that project's current PDFs and PDFs added later while the share remains active. Owners can revoke access. Blocking, account restrictions, and the end of the related ad or project can prevent further downloads. Unblocking may restore an existing share. Removing a file or ending a project can lead to permanent cleanup; renewing an ad does not restore deleted files or earlier sharing permissions.

Only upload or share files you are entitled to disclose. Recipients can keep downloaded files, screenshots, message text and contact details. Revoking access or deleting content cannot recall those copies.

Optional public phone contact

Each ad has its own contact choice: messages only or messages plus a public phone number. If you choose public phone contact, anyone, including a visitor without an account, can reveal the number on that active ad and call or text it. Confirm that you have authority to publish the number.

A number saved in account Contact info is available for reuse when posting; changing that saved number does not update existing ads. Turning off phone contact on an ad prevents future reveals through that ad, but does not erase copies people already obtained. Phone numbers you type directly into messages or public content are also disclosed to whoever can see that content.

Cookies and drafts on your device

We use cookies and similar browser storage for sign-in, account security, listing view counts and saved posting drafts. Listing views contribute to public aggregate counts, and short-lived identifiers help avoid counting repeated visits. Blocking or clearing browser storage can affect these features.

The posting form can save draft text, selected photos and PDFs, confirmed location, and phone choices on your device, including before registration. Guest files stay on the device until you sign in with a verified email and the posting flow uploads them. Drafts do not sync between devices. They expire one day after the last saved change and are cleared when the posting form next checks them; your browser may remove them earlier. Successful publication clears the local draft. Signing into a different account can also clear an account-bound draft.

A draft can contain personal information, including a phone number you entered. Use care on shared devices and clear the draft or this site's browser data when appropriate. Passwords and security-challenge responses are not saved in posting drafts.

Email and your choices

Work-alert emails require a separate opt-in and include unsubscribe options. Saving an ad does not subscribe you to alerts. You can manage alert subscriptions and message-email preferences in your account. Account verification, password reset, recovery and other necessary account messages are separate from work alerts. New-message emails identify the conversation and link to Brovenn without including the private message text.

Service providers and other disclosures

We use service providers for website operation, data and file storage, email delivery, abuse prevention and service reliability. They process information needed to provide those services. Information may be processed or stored outside Canada and may be subject to the laws of those locations. If you follow an external link or view content on a public distribution channel, that service's privacy practices also apply.

We may disclose information where required by law, to respond to valid legal requests, or where permitted by law to address fraud, threats to safety, or misuse of the service. Private content is not made public simply because it is stored by a service provider.

Retention and account deletion

We retain information to provide the service, maintain account and conversation history, handle reports and requests, and meet applicable obligations. Closing an ad does not immediately erase its records or the associated messages. Expired or closed ads no longer accept new messages; existing participants can still read their conversation. Temporary uploads and other short-lived records are cleaned up separately. Retention varies by record type; there is no single deletion period for all messages, reports, security records, backups or provider records.

You can request account deletion through Delete account. Your profile and ads are hidden and you are signed out. A 30-day recovery period follows. During that period, a recovery email lets you explicitly restore the account; requesting another recovery email does not extend the deadline.

After the recovery period, the account becomes due for permanent cleanup. Cleanup removes personal account details, credentials, uploaded photos and PDFs, stored contact details, saved items, subscriptions and reviews from active Brovenn systems, and replaces messages you authored with a deletion notice. Other participants retain their own messages with an anonymous deleted-member reference. Completion depends on scheduled processing and successful file cleanup; it is not a promise that every copy disappears at the exact deadline.

Downloaded or externally delivered copies cannot be recalled. Backups and service-provider records may remain until their applicable retention periods end. After erasure, registering again creates a new account without access to the old account's data.

Access, corrections and privacy concerns

You can edit supported profile, listing and notification settings in your account. For access or deletion requests, use Privacy requests. For corrections you cannot make yourself, other privacy questions, or help when you cannot sign in, contact support. We may need to verify your identity and consider other people's privacy or applicable legal requirements before fulfilling a request. Never send us your password or recovery codes.

Updates and contact

We may update this notice as the service or our practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision.
